The Kingdom. Episode 15

“I can’t believe this,” Udoka said after Imafidon revealed everything to him about himself. “So you are the king of Izieole Kingdom.”

“That is it my brother.”

He bowed down his head. “All hail the king of Izieole Kingdom.”

“You don’t need to do that, I am no longer the king for now.”

“You are still the king whether your brother likes it or not. You are not dead.”
“But the people of my Kingdom believe I am no more.”

“What about your queen?” he asked with concern. “What are your plans for her?”

The first thing Imafidon did was sigh and closed his eyes. “I promised her I would be back from the stream and I never came back. Omotola was going to tell me something but here I am alone with no clue what she wanted to say. So painful she is now the wife of my brother.” He opened his eyes and stared into Udoka’s eyeballs.

“The tone of your voice tells me you are angry at her, don’t you think she was forced to be his queen?”

“Omotola is a woman that is strong headed. I’m still shocked that she agreed to marry Osazuwa.”

“You are jealous.”

His eyes became angry. “I am supposed to be her husband! I am highly disappointed!”

“Calm down and think properly,” Udoka suggested. “You are saying this because you are furious with the news I gave you about your wife. What plans do you have for her?”

Imafidon still had an angry facial look. “I have to fight for my Kingdom, I need to get it back!”

“After that?”

He speedily rose up from the bench he was sitting down. “I don’t want to think of her now. I am still upset.”

Udoka got up and walked to Imafidon. He touched him slightly on his left shoulder. “I understand how you feel, getting betrayed by loved ones. You need some time alone and think thoroughly about everything.”

“I can’t believe my aunty sat down and watch Omotola get married to that animal, that heartless psycho!”

“You don’t need to shout, I will help you with something.”

“What?” Imafidon asked.

“While we plan how you will take your Kingdom, I will send someone and get information about what happened, about how your queen became the wife of your hateful brother.”

He was surprised. “You will do that for me?”

Udoka dropped his hand down from the shoulder. “Yes. I see you as my brother and I am willing to help you.”

“Do you want anything in return?”

He shook his head. “I don’t want anything but true friendship. You have to trust me.”

“I am sorry to tell you this, I don’t think I can trust anyone again. My wife, brother and aunty as turned their back on me.”

“Don’t conclude my king.”

“If you don’t want me to conclude, I will like to follow the person you want to send to my Kingdom.”

“Your life will be in danger.”

“I will disguise myself and be very careful,” Imafidon said to persuade him. “I don’t need to get close to the palace to hear information, I will visit the market.”

“Are you sure you won’t be recognized?”

“No, I will be very careful.”

“I will let you know when you will be travelling.”
Imafidon’s face brightened. “You have agreed to let me travel to my Kingdom?”

“Yes,” Udoka s replied. “I want you to be happy.”

He embraced him. “Thank you very much.”

Udoka released himself from him. “Don’t mention.” He said. “I will gather the warriors and inform them to start training,” he said. “Your brother will surely pay!”

“Me too and we will work together.”

“Oputuputu!” Aigbokai spat out after his conversation with Abieyuwa in his house. “Are you serious about what you just told me?”

“Yes, I think she is using love potion for my son and I have asked him severally but he always bluffs me off with such ideas. I am very angry at him. How could Osazuwa marry the wife of his late brother?”

“He is a man and he has the right to make his decisions. He is no longer a baby but the King of Izieole. But you don’t regret he is the King, right?”

“Of course I don’t regret it but I’m beginning to think Omotola is using something for my son.”

“Cut it out!” Aigbokai said. "Your son is only in love with her.”

“But I don’t like her!” she let it out. ‘I want her dead!!”

He covered her mouth quickly and removed his hand. “You need to watch your tongue!”

Abieyuwa folded her arms together. “I no longer care!”

“Give your son some space, maybe he will come back to his senses one day.”

“I am still upset.”

"About what?” he asked.

“My daughter in law is yet to give me a grand child.”

“Queen Omotola or Adesuwa?”

"Over my dead body will I call that witch my daughter in law,” she said bitterly. “She has made my son to turn his back at me. You won’t believe he listens to anything she says in the palace.”

“Oh yes! Anything she asks for he must do it or give it to her.”

He touched his chin thoughtfully and spoke. “I think she is using a spell on him.”

She pointed at finger at him. “Now you are talking. It is a spell!”

“What do we do?”

“Adesuwa and I have sent a spy to look for Osaigbovo, Osato and the twins.”

“For what?” he asked surprised.

“When he finds their whereabouts, I will look for a way to eliminate the children of Omotola.”

“But they are innocent,” he said. “The twins are not the problem.”

“Who says? What if Adesuwa never gets pregnant? Those useless twins will come back and fight for the throne in the future and I do not want that to happen.”

“Whatever you want, I will support you. Now can we go to my bedroom?”

Abieywa quickly rose on her feet and headed towards the door. “I am going home.”

“Oputuputu!” Aigbokai uttered. “No show today?”

“My body is weak.”

He stood up, moved close and winked at her. “I can make you strong.”

“You will make my body worse.”

He smiled sheepishly. “I will do it gently.”

She opened the door. “I will see you in five days’ time.”

Amaka entered into Imafidon’s room unannounced. She was only tying a wrapper round her body.

“Why didn’t you knock?” he asked her.
She motioned closer and sat close to him. “I am here to tell you something on my mind.”

“I hope all is well?”

“Yes.” she answered. “I know we have been living together as a family since you started living here, I want to let you know I’m in love with you.”

“But I am a married man.”

“You no longer have a wife, remember she is the wife of your younger brother.”

Imafidon frowned. “I do not care and I still love her.”

“She no longer loves you, she betrayed you!”

He was getting upset. “Please leave.”

“I can give you true love.”

“I don’t need you and your true love. I am grateful for what you and your brother have done for me, I will find another place to stay.”

“You don’t need to leave! I just want you to think about you and I as a couple.”
“I am not interested.”

Amaka face fell. “Please don’t tell my brother about this.”

“I won’t and don’t repeat this again.”

She gave a nod and left his room.

Imafidon was dressed up, a small cloth was wrapped around his neck to use it to cover his face whenever he wanted. He was ready to travel with a man called Chucks. They embarked on a journey to Izieole Kingdom. Udoka and Amaka wished him well and prayed to the gods for a safe journey. He thanked them and promised to be back in good health.

Queen Omotola was getting ready to leave the palace when King Osazuwa Obayuwana stooped her. She wanted to visit the market and talk to the sellers to encourage them.

“I will go with you.” He said.

“I don’t want you to follow me.”

“I am the king and I will do whatever I want, especially with you.”

She shook her head. “Sometimes you talk without thinking.”

“Watch your mouth!!”

“If I don’t what can you do?”

“Don’t make me change my mind on some of the things I have done because of you. I gave back all the lands I took from the people because you persuaded me to do it. They also live in peace and harmony. Do you want me to change that?”

“This is blackmail!”

“Call it whatever!”

“You are using the people to get what you want from me. You are doing this because they are my weakness. The gods will pay you back.”

“Can we go now?” he asked her.

“You can follow me.” Omotola replied.

“Not only that, you will act as my dearest queen.”

“I don’t understand.”

“You are going to show the world you are a happy woman with me. You will smile, giggle at me in front
of the people. I want them to see we are in love with each other.”

“So you want me to pretend?”

Osazuwa did not give her an answer.

“Anyway, is that all?” she asked.

“That is not a problem but always remember I hate you!”

Adesuwa and Osazuwa’s guard Aigbe were together on his bed in the bedroom.

He said to princess Adesuwa after sex with her. “I think we should stop seeing each other for sometime.”

“Why?” she asked shocked.

“I am beginning to get scared. I think we are being watched.”

“I thought you are supposed to be a fearless warrior.”

“I am but we are talking about the king of Izieole. What if he finds out about our affair?”

“He will not find out,” Adesuwa said. “I am always careful whenever I come here.”

Aigbe said, “Watch my back while I watch yours, if the king finds out about us, he will definitely kill us.”

“I know.”

“Should we go for another round?”

“Yes my love.”

The queen and the king arrived at the market holding hands with each other. A smile was plastered round Omotola’s lips. Osazuwa eyes were on her, admiring his wife. She spoke to the women as they gather to listen attentively to her. She promised to make them happier by hosting a party for them. She encouraged the women to continue to sell.
While she spoke, Imafidon and Chucks entered the market. He told Chucks to find a way to ask about his aunt, Isoken. The former king of Izieole sighted his wife. He was excited but it was cut short the moment she wrapped her arms around Osazuwa’s waist and she smiled at him.

It felt as if an arrow pierced his heart.

Omotola grinned at Osazuwa and he did the same.
Chucks came back, glance at Imafidon and saw how sad he was. “I guess you never expected this.”

“I was expecting to see a sad woman.”

“She looks in love. I think she is happy with him.”

“Let’s go.”

“What? Won’t you find a way to confront her?”

“No.” he replied miserably. “I do not want to bring back memories. I just want to go.”

“Let’s leave!”

They turned their back. Omotola looked at their way but saw only their backs. She felt the man walking at the right side looked familiar. She thought of her husband. She shook her head glumly. It was impossible for the man on the right to be her one and only everlasting love.

When Omotola and Osazuwa went back home, she asked him. “Do you have any idea why I was smiling with you at the market?”

“Of course I do,” he said. “You were smiling because I told you to do so.”

She smiled. “I was thinking of Imafidon while I was with you at the market.”

He widened his eyes and raised his right hand to hit her. She stopped him by holding his hand.

“Don’t you ever in your life try to hit me again.” she dropped his hand.

“Are you daring me?!”

“No, I am only warning you.”

“King Osazuwa Obayuwana! I need to rest!” she walked away from him without looking back.

Imafidon was back to Uzor Kingdom an unhappy man. Udoka was unable to hug him because of the sadness in his eyes.

“What happened?” he asked.

Chucks revealed everything to him and Amaka. They felt sorry for him. Imafidon went into his room to pack his few things to leave but he was stopped.

“We cannot allow you to leave.” Udoka said.

“You have done enough for me, let me find another place to stay.”

“Never. We will continue to plan on how to take over your Kingdom back. You will join the warriors to train because it’s going to be a big war.”

He burst into tears. “My aunty died!”

Amaka wrapped her arms around Imafidon to console him. “What happened?”

“Chucks told me the sad news when we got close to your Kingdom.”

“I am sorry for your loss.” Udoka said.

After few seconds, Imafidon freed himself from her.

“If I have my Kingdom back, it won’t be complete without Omotola.”

Udoka sighed. “Take back your Kingdom first. It is most important thing to do.”

“Thank you for everything.”

“It’s nothing.”

“I don’t know why I never saw my former guard, Osaigbovo. I told him to always be by the side of Omotola.”

“Maybe he was doing something important.”

“He was one of the people I trusted in my Kingdom.” he said. “If only I can see him again, he will tell me the truth about what happened after my disappearance.”

"Maybe you will meet him again.”

“I really want to see him again, that man was ready to do anything for me.”

In the night, Amaka sneaked into Imafidon’s room and lay on his bed. He woke up instantly and pushed her away. She fell on the floor and stood up by herself.

“Why do you hate me?” she asked.

“I do not hate you!”

“But I love you.”

“I love another and if you try this again, I will leave.”

“Does that mean I can never have a chance to be with you?” she asked.

“No.” he replied.

“What if you never get the chance to be with Omotola again?”

“Let that day come and I will have an answer for you.”

“I will not force myself on you again.” She turned her back to leave but he called her name. Amaka turned to face him.

“I am sorry for saying no,” Imafidon said. “I see you as my sister, please let’s keep it that way.”

“No problem, goodnight.”

“We have been going from one Kingdom to another, the twins and I are tired.” Osato said as they arrived another Kingdom.

“I know how you feel but I am doing this for the twins. They are still babies to understand what is going on. I don’t trust princess Adesuwa, she might send someone to look for us.”

“I know but travelling all the time will cause harm to the twins health and mine. Remember I am pregnant.”

“This is our last,” he said. “This will be the Kingdom we will live in."

“Yes. I heard they are very nice to strangers.”

“What is the name of this Kingdom?”

“Uzor Kingdom.”
