Hanks quickly spoke. “I am begging you in the name of God Leonard. Please don’t harm Brown.”

He shook his head, still pointing the gun at Brown. “I have to do what my boss says.”

Hanks fell on his knees. “Consider our friendship and help us. I thought you were on our side?”

“I am no longer on your side!” Leonard yelled. “Do you have any idea how much my boss gave me today for the kidnap of his cousin?”

“I will pay double of what your boss gave you!” Dabota uttered.

“I will give you any amount,” Brown said. “Please don’t hurt any of us.”

“What can we do to change your mind?” Hanks asked and stood.

“Please help us.” Quinn said.

“All of you should shut up!!”  Leonard shouted at them. “I will only spare the life of Brown if Rebecca comes with me.”

Rebecca dropped her hands. Her eyes were already filled with heated tears. “I will follow you.”

“No!” Brown yelled. “You don’t have to follow him.”

Leonard exchanged the gun to his left hand and still pointed the gun at Brown. He deep his right hand into his pocket and took out his phone.

“What are you trying to do?” Hanks asked him.

“What do you think I want to do? I want to call Desmond to come here."

“Please don’t do this.” Hanks said and moved forward with his hands up. “Let’s talk about this one more time.”

Leonard pointed the gun at him. Quinn began to cry and pleaded for him not to shoot her brother.

“I am ready to pay you any amount.” Dabota begged.

  Leonard stepped a bit forward.

“If you move one more time,” Leonard said. “I will not hesitate to shoot you.”

“You are ready to kill your friend because of money?” Brown asked. “Consider the good times the both of you had and ask yourself if it’s worth it.”

Three million is a lot of money to kidnap and take your worthless life.” He pointed the gun at Brown again.

Rebecca fell on her knees. “I am pregnant.”

“What?” Leonard exclaimed.

“You shouldn’t have told him.” Dabota cried out.

“I have no choice,” she said and turned to look at Leonard. “If you hurt Brown, Desmond will never be able to touch his child when I give birth. I know Desmond does not want a child with me but what I know is that he will use the fact that I am carrying his child not to give me a divorce. You can call your bastard of a boss to tell him the news.”

He looked at her. “Are you sure you are pregnant?”

He was about to dial Desmond's number when they heard the siren to police officers.

“Did you call the police?”

They shook their heads. They were surprised too except Dabota. Rebecca rose on her feet.

“Don’t lie to me!!” he shouted at them.

“You having been holding us with a gun,” Brown said. “How can we call the police?”

“Don’t ask me foolish question!”

Hanks spoke. “No one called the police. You should put your gun down and we will not say anything about this to the police.”

“How can I believe you?”

“As long as you don’t shoot anyone, we will not say a word about this.”

They heard the sound of the gate opened.
“But the police will ask questions,” he said in a scared tone. “How can I escape?”

“There is no way to escape because they are already at the front of the house. Put your gun down and hide it.”

Leonard was breathing fast.

“Killing me will complicate things for you. Desmond will deny ever knowing you if you pull a gun on me.”

He dropped the gun down, stuck it inside his trouser and kept his phone in his pocket.

“Rebecca hugged Brown and began to cry.

“I thought I was going to lose you,” she said.

“You have me now.” He said and smiled at her.
Quinn embraced Dabota before she went to hold her brother. “Thank God we are save now.”
Two policemen burst the door opened. It was not locked with a key. Dr. Mayowa followed them to enter. Rebecca sighted her father, she was surprised by his presence. She ran to meet him.

 “Are you okay?” he asked.

“Yes father."

One of the policemen, officer Mike asked who was Leonard, Hanks pointed at him.

“You have to tell us everything you know about Desmond Tega.”

“Am I under arrest?” he asked.

“No but if you are found guilty of any crime, you will be persecuted.”

He began to panic and feared for his life when they find out he was holding a gun. He had no other option than to raise his shirt and the officer saw the gun and took it from him. The officer asked them if they were threatened, they said no. Leonard was dragged outside like a criminal.

“How did you know about this?” Rebecca asked her father.

He cleared his throat and touched her right arm. “It’s a long story my dear, but I will tell you everything later. I have to follow them to the police station to find out everything about Desmond.”

“He kidnapped his child but we don’t know where he is now. The police have to interrogate Leonard to find the truth.”

“They will do their job and I promise to find the boy.”

“We don’t know who killed Maureen yet. We have to find out the truth if Desmond sent Leonard to kill her.”

“Don’t worry about that,” he said. “We will find the truth.”

Quinn came towards them and shook Dr. Mayowa’s hand. “Thank you sir for what you did.”

“It’s nothing Quinn and thank you for taking good care of my daughter.”

She smiled at him. “She is my sister so you don’t need to thank me.”

Brown and Hanks walked to meet Rebecca’s father and thanked him too. He left them to meet the police officers outside and they drove away to the police station.

Dabota left the sitting room to the visitor’s toilet to breathe well. Her lover was around but she couldn’t go close to him or show him love. His daughter was her friend and that could tear their relationship. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She was going to say the truth no matter what. She didn’t want to keep the secret anymore like what Quinn was doing. If Rebecca finds out herself, it will be a big mess. Dabota left the toilet and informed them she was going. She promised to see her friends the next day.
“Can we talk?” Brown asked the woman he loved.

She led the way to the dinning and they sat down close to each other. Hanks followed Quinn to her room to talk.

Brown took Rebecca’s right hand. “Do you know if Desmond will know about the baby?”

“I don’t think so,” she said. “Please don’t be angry for telling Leonard, I was only scared.”

“I can’t blame you because you were trying to protect me.”

“Thank you for understanding me.”

“I love you Becca.”

She looked at him and touched his chin lightly. She put down her hand. “You mean a lot to me and finding and knowing you makes me happy. I know I might be a bit difficult but I am doing this for my unborn child. It hurts me that I am pregnant for that monster but I will love my child and forget the horror I passed through in the hands of my baby’s father. Give me time to heal my wounds and I promise to give you my heart and attention.”

“I understand Becca. Don’t feel bad that you are carrying his child. If you are destined to have this baby, then it is the will of God.”

She heard her phone ring in the living room, she excused herself and went to pick up the call. It was her mother. After speaking to her for some minutes, she dropped her phone on the table and sounded excited when she went to meet Brown.

“You look cheerful,” he said after she sat down. “Who called you?”

“It was my mother.”

“Yes.” She said with a smile. “She is in Nigeria and I will be going to see her tonight at her hotel.”
“Extend my greetings to her.”

“I will,” she said. “I will tell her about you.”

“Does she knows you are divorcing your husband?”

“No and she will be surprised because I hate divorce. I was against my parent’s divorce.”

“And it affected you.”

“Yes it did and I have forgotten about it. I am happy I am getting close to my father.”

“Your father truly loves you. I still can’t believe we survived today. What if your father never came with those policemen?”

“It would have been bloody.”

“Have you found out how he knew about Leonard?”
Rebecca shook her head. “I will find out from him later. I have to have my bath and see my mom.”

“Will you be staying with her tonight?” Brown asked.

“Yes,” she replied. “How is your father?”

“He is getting better.”

“Thank God for that. I can’t wait to be free from Desmond.”

“Me too.”

“I think you should tell Rebecca you slept with Desmond.” Hanks said to his sister.

Quinn spoke. “There is no need for that.”

“Desmond will spill everything if he goes to jail.”

“Let him go to jail first and I will know what to do.”

“If Rebecca finds out from that animal, she will never forgive you. Don’t complicated things.”

“Everything in our lives is already complicated. I can’t tell my friends I am in love with a woman, Dabota father is back, Rebecca wants to divorce her husband. We are going through a lot my brother.”

“It seems you don’t know what is going on.”

She glanced at him with a questionable facial look. “What is going on?”

Hanks gave a one sided smile. “Didn’t you notice something when Rebecca’s father came?”

She thought for a second and answered him. “No.”

“Then there is no need to say anything.”

“You have to tell me.”

“Let me not say because I might be wrong.”

“Please tell me.” she pleaded.

“Have you thought of who told Rebecca’s father about Leonard. How he got to know he was coming here to give us information about Desmond?”

“I wasn’t the one who told him,” Quinn said. “Rebecca does not know too and Dabota…. Wait a minute. Dabota did not say anything and she left us to go to the toilet.”

“You are smart.”

“She did not join us to thank Dr. Mayowa.”

“That is correct! Are you saying Dabota told him?”

“Yes but don’t you think there is more to it?”

“What do you mean?” Quinn asked Hanks.

“That Rebecca’s father and Dabota may be having an affair.”

She began to laugh.

He shrugged. “What is funny?”

“That is impossible.”

“There is nothing impossible because he is her type.”
She looked at him and her face changed. “Oh my God. This can’t be true. She cannot do this to Rebecca.”

“You need to find out the truth first.”

“I will never be happy with her if it’s true.”

“Pot calling kettle black,” he said and she frowned. “All I want you to do is say the truth.”

“I will at the right time.”

He sighed. “I will be travelling back to Canada after the truth about Desmond comes out.”

“You are leaving me?”

“I have to go back and take care of business,” he said. “Don’t forget I have to go for my plastic surgery.”

She hugged him tightly. “I will miss you so much.”
“And I will miss you too.”

Brown informed Quinn and her brother that he was leaving. Rebecca told him to wait for her to have her bath and get dressed so that he will take her to the hotel. He had no choice. He agreed.

“I should have followed you to greet your mother,” Quinn said. “but I have to go somewhere too.”

“Where are you going to?” Rebecca asked.

“To see a colleague.” She lied.

“That is not a problem, I will tell my mother you said hi.”

“Thank you dear.”

Rebecca went to take her bath, wore a blue jeans and a white top. She carried a moderate size handbag and put her nightie and a gown she was going to wear the next day. She couldn’t wait to see her mother, they had a lot to talk about.

Brown drove Rebecca to the location of the hotel. He gave her a peck on the left chin before he drove home.

Dabota and her father were having drinks together. She wanted to try her luck and see if he would spill everything. She began to promise to make his life better. A tape recorder was turned on.

“Papa,” she said. “You don’t need to worry, I will build a big house for you.”

“Thank you my daughter,” he said. “You are the true daughter of your father.”

“I want you to bring the woman and the child she has for you.”

He appeared surprised. “Are you sure about that?”
“Yes father.”

“You know your mother was against the other woman and her child.”

“I know father and she was very wrong. I deserved a younger sibling.”

“That is good my daughter.” He said and took a sip from his drink.

“I hope you covered your tracks.” Dabota said.
“What do you mean?” her father asked.

“Remember I ran that day and I don’t know if you were able to hide it. I hope you lied that she fell or got herself injured.”

He sighed and looked at her. “You ran away and I didn’t understand why.”

“I was scared father.”

“Why are you not sacred now?”

“Because I have grown to be like you,” she said and flashed a smile at him. “I am fearless and I will hurt anyone who tries to deprive me of my happiness.”

“That is courage my daughter. I never should have beaten your mother to death, but she pushed me to the wall.”

“How did you cover the cause of her death?” she asked. She was happy inside he agreed to kill her mother. She wanted more information.

“I told her family she ran away with you.”

Dabota hailed him for his smartness. Deep down she cursed him. She was happy for his dumbness and being an illiterate, he didn’t have a clue what she was going to do to him. She was trying so hard not to break her bottle of beer on his head. She thought if she killed him with her own hands, she won’t be able to give her late mother a benefiting burial.

“What did you do to her corpse?” she asked.

“I wrapped her body with a bed sheet and buried her in my farm. It is close to where I plant yams.”

“No one knew you were carrying a dead body?”

“As a farmer, the few people around thought I was carrying what I wanted to plant.” He erupted into laughter. Dabota stared at him with disgust and when he looked at her direction, she changed her facial expression. She laughed with him. He was going to pay for what he did. She informed him she was going to her bathroom and would be back. She went to her bedroom and kept the recorder inside a safe place in her wardrobe. She took more beer from her fridge and went back to join him. Her plan was to get him drunk and allow him sleep in her mansion for the night. The next day he will end up in prison for the rest of his life.

“You are not serious about this decision?” Rebecca asked her mother. They had discussed about Desmond and now her mom told her what she is planning to do.

“I am serious Rebecca.”

“Father cheated on you and going back to him will complicate things.”

“How my daughter?”

“There will not be trust anymore,” she said. “You won’t trust him.”

“I never should have agreed to divorce him, I should have begged him to allow us stay and work on our marriage.”

Rebecca looked at her mother with a shocked look. ”Begged him? He cheated on you!”

“But you have forgiven him and you trying to make things work.”

“He is my father and he tried to make things work between us. He apologized for everything that happened. I know he is not having an affair but you are. I thought you were happy in your relationship abroad?”

“I broke up with him because he was not like your father.”

“Your father is a good man.”

“I can’t believe you are saying this.”

“Don’t you want us to come together?” her mother, Mariam asked.

“I don’t want him to hurt you again,” she replied. “Maybe he has changed, maybe he won’t cheat on you when you come back together but I don’t want what happened to repeat again. What makes you think it will work?”

“Me?” she asked.

“Your father is still trying to win your love back you can tell him you want us to come back together and you will forgive him completely.”

“Are you trying to bribe me?”

“I only want us to be family again and I know your father will listen to you. He loves you so much and your happiness is his number one priority.”

“I don’t know if father will agree to it,” Rebecca said in a serene tone. “What if he says no?”

“Will you take no for an answer?” Mariam asked her daughter.

“I want us to be family again,” she said. “I know father tried his best for me to be close to him again. You left and never called to say sorry for ending the marriage.”

“That is the past,” she said. “Let s focus on the future.”

“I will try my best and talk to him about it. He is supposed to call me tomorrow and give me details of Leonard and Desmond.”

“That is good,” she said to her daughter with a smile on her lips. “Now, let’s talk about Brown Smith.”

Rebecca giggled like a baby.

“You have to tell your friends about your sexuality.” Carrie said to Quinn. The actress went to visit her lover in her house. They sat down together on a long couch in her bedroom.

“I am not ready for that.”

“But it is the right thing to do,” she said. “Your brother is right. You should tell Rebecca the truth.”

She sighed tiredly.

“I also want them to know about me.” Carrie said. “I am tired of hide and seek relationship.”

“But my country is against people like us.”

“I don’t need you to tell your country but your close friends. My family knows about you in South Africa.”

“I know but my brother knows about you.” Quinn said.

“But you have not introduced me to him as your lover.”

“I will before he travels back to Canada.”

“What about Rebecca and Dabota?” she asked.

“I will tell them but not now!”

“I am impatient. It seems I am dating who does not love me.”

“But I do and you know it. Let’s focus on our relationship first and I will find the right time to tell the world about you.”

“If that is what you want no problem,” Carrie smiled, rose up and stood in front of Quinn. “Let’s go to bed.”

The next day, After Rebecca had breakfast with her mom, Dabota called Rebecca that she should come to the police station. She kissed her mom on her forehead to bid her goodbye. When she got there, Dabota, Quinn and Hanks were with her father. She was told Desmond has been arrested.

“It wasn’t Leonard who killed Maureen,” her father said to her. “Desmond has a gun and he killed her himself.”

She covered her mouth with her hands out of shock and removed them. “I can’t believe I married a murderer. I was living with a killer.”

“Thank God you left him on time.”

Hanks spoke. “Leonard has given the location of where Maureen son is. The police have gone there.”

“That is good news.” She said. “Can I see Desmond?”

“No for now,” her father said. “They are still trying to find out if he has done other crimes.”

“I have to ask him how he knew about Maureen coming to see me.”

“You will ask him when the police are done with their job.”

“What about Leonard?” she asked.

“He will definitely go to prison because he has a hand in the kidnap of Maureen son.”

She went to stay at Quinn and Dabota side. They were happy about what was going on. Dabota told them about the confession of her useless father. She was unable to bring the recorder with her because she rushed to the station when she heard Desmond has been arrested. She planned to go back home later to get it and bring it to the station.

Dr. Mayowa called Rebecca to come for a talk. He took her close to his car. “I have something important to tell you.”

“I have something important to tell you too.”

“Ladies first,” he said and smiled.

“Mother is back to Nigeria.”

He was startled about it. “She sent me a mail to tell me.”

“I know this is not the right place to tell you but I have to.”

“What is it?” he asked.

“I want you and mother to come back as a couple and she has agreed to it.”

“I thought you are supposed to be happy?!”

“Did she tell you to tell me this?” he asked in an angry tone.

She rolled her eyes, “No.”

“That’s a lie.”

“But you should be happy she wants you back.”

“I am in love with another woman,” he said.

“You are what?!!”

“That is what I wanted to tell you,” he said. “I am in a happy relationship.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” she asked him.

Dr. Mayowa was silent.

“Why are you answering me with silence?”

“I am in love with Dabota.”

Rebecca's eyes fired up with rage. “You are having an affair with my friend?”

Dabota ran to meet them when she heard her name. Quinn and Hanks joined them.

“I am sorry my daughter.”

“I don’t want your sorry you cheat!” she uttered and turned to Dabota. “How could you?”

“I am sorry Rebecca. I was the one who told your father about Leonard. I told him I didn’t trust the guy, that he should involve the commissioner of police and bring some police officers to Quinn’s house. I am sorry for falling in love with your father.”

“How can you fall in love with my father? Well,  you love older men."

Her father spoke. “I know about her past Rebecca.”

“Don’t call my name!!” she screamed.

Quinn touched her shoulders to calm her down but she told her to leave her alone.

“I am disappointed in you father!” she uttered. “You should be ashamed for going behind my back to date m friend I call a sister.”

Dabota began to cry. Her face were flooded with tears. “Please forgive us. I deeply love your father.”

“You two deserve each other,” Rebecca said. “A gold digger and a cheat.”

“Your father is a good man,” she said with tears dripping. “You got it all wrong Rebecca.”

“Please Dabota don’t.” Dr. Mayowa said.

She cleaned her face and turned to look at him with anger in her face. “She needs to know the truth!”

“What truth father?” Rebecca asked with a shaky voice.
Dabota gazed at her. “Your father never cheated, your mother was the one who cheated. Your father caught her with another man on their matrimonial bed!”
