Brown touched the shoulders of Carrie to console her. She was crying very hard.

“I have to see her.” she said to the doctor.

“You can see her and I will tell a nurse to take you to her.”

Carrie sniffed her nose. The doctor called a male nurse to take her to Quinn and he directed Brown and Dr. Mayowa to see Rebecca.

The two men entered into a warm room, Rebecca turned her head gently to check who entered. Brown could not wait but ran to her. Despite there was trip in her hand, he hugged on her the bed. She gave a sigh out of pain she received.

“Oh!” he uttered. “I’m sorry. I am excited to see you.”

She managed to smile at him. “Me too.”

“How are you my daughter?” her father asked.

“I am getting better dad,” she replied and looked at Brown. “I am so happy to see you.”

“Me too and guess what?”

“Desmond has signed the divorce papers.”

Dr. Mayowa spoke. “Your lawyer called me few minutes ago to tell me the good news.”

Rebecca tried to smile brightly. “Ouch.”

“Sorry my dear.”

“Sorry Becca,” Brown said. “You still need to rest.”

“I know but I have not seen Quinn and Dabota,” she said softly. “Why didn’t the doctor put us in the same room?”

Dr. Mayowa and Brown stared at each other.

Her eyebrows rose. “What’s going on?”

“Nothing my daughter,” her father said and went to touch her hand mildly. “The doctor said you should rest.”

“I do not understand you,” she said. “I want to see my friends.”

“Please calm down,” Brown said to her. “You will see them when you are better.”

“When I am better?”

“Is there something wrong?” she asked with fear in her eyes.

Brown scratched his head, he could not tell her the truth now because she may not be able to handle the situation.

“Where is Quinn and Dabota!!” she yelled and began to cough. Brown panicked and touched her gently to calm her down. Dr. Mayowa rushed out to get a nurse. She stopped to cough and glared at Brown. “Please you have to tell me what’s going on.”

“Please relax and I will tell you,” he said and caressed her hair. “Your health is very important to me.”

Rebecca began to cry. “Don’t tell me to relax. I want to see Dabota and Quinn.”

“You don’t have to cry.”

“I have to because you have refused to tell me where my sisters are. Please tell me!”

“I will tell you at the right time,” he said in a moderate tone. “Please stay calm because you are still recovering.”

”I don’t want to recovery,” she said with tears dripping down her eyes. “I beg you in the name of Almighty God, tell me why they are not with me in this room.”

Her father and a female nurse came into the room. She checked Rebecca hand pulse and the color of her eyes. She told Brown and the patient’s father that Rebecca needs an alone time for her to rest.

Rebecca quickly spoke. “But I have every right to know the condition of my friends.”

The nurse looked at her. “Your friends are okay.”

“If my friends…”

The nurse did not allow her finish her sentence by bringing out an injection and injected the patient to make her fall asleep instantly.

“I think the both of you should leave and come back later.”

“Ok.” Brown said and Dr. Mayowa nodded.

“You should get some of her things and provisions because she will be very hungry when she wakes up.”

The two of them left the hospital together in the same car to get some things they think the three women will need. They came back at night and Brown went to check on Carrie. He saw Quinn lay on the bed with life support. He dropped her things on a table and stared at Carrie.

“You have to be strong.”

“What if she never wakes up?” she asked with tears dropping from her weary eyes.

“I don’t have an answer to that question but what I will tell you is to have faith in God.”

“I have  prayed already,” she said and sniffed her nose. “Will God answer me?”

“God answers his children. You only have to have faith in him.”

“How is Rebecca?”

“She is getting better.”

“What about Dabota?”

“Dr. Mayowa has gone to check up on her,” he replied. “I think she’s awake now.”

“Does Rebecca know about Quinn?”

“Not yet. I don’t think she can handle the situation. I will tell her later. I am sure Rebecca’s father will tell Dabota.”

“Dabota is very strong,” Carrie said. “She can handle the news but it will definitely break her heart.”

Brown sat down on a chair and stayed close to one hour. He left and went to meet Dr. Mayowa. Dabota’s pillow was already soaked in her tears. She was sobbing loudly.

“You have to stop crying.” Brown said to her.

“I can never stop crying,’ she said. “I want to see Quinn!”

“You cannot see her now.”

“Why can’t I see her?” she asked. “Is it because I can no longer walk again?”

Brown glanced at Dr. Mayowa.

“You don’t have to look at him,” she said to him. “The doctor told me about my legs before he came to check up on me. I could not move them when I woke up and I had to ask the doctor.”

“I am sorry,” Brown said. “But you can walk again.”

“I don’t want to hear such! I want to see my best friend!”

Dr. Mayowa touched her hand caringly. “You will but it’s not now. You will see her soon, I promise you my dearest.”

Brown later went check up on his father and cousin.

The next morning, the men in Rebecca’s life went home to bath. After they ate breakfast, they went back to the hospital. Rebecca had already stood up and was trying to remove the drip from her hand when Brown and her father entered. They rushed to stop her.

“What do you think you are trying to do?” Brown asked.

“I want to look for Quinn and Dabota!”

“You have to sit down my daughter,” her father said. “Please!”

“You have to tell me what’s going on.”

“I will tell you.”

She sat down gently on the bed.

Dr. Mayowa sighed and gazed at her. “First of all, I want you to know I love you very much. You should know I am your real father.”

“You are?” she asked surprised.

He explained everything to her.

“I am highly disappointed in my mother.” she said and nodded her head continuously. “She’s not fit to be a mother.”

“I am disappointed in her too,” he said. “You also lost the pregnancy.”

Rebecca was quiet for a short time and spoke. “I never wanted anything bad to happen to my baby but there is nothing I can do about it. What about my friends?”

“Dabota is awake and you will see each other soon,” Brown answered. “She is paralyzed but its temporary and not permanent.”

“Oh my God! Thank God is not permanent. Does she know?”

“What about Quinn?”

Her father broke the news.
“No!!!” she screamed and tears poured out from her eyes. Her veins from her head were visible. She wanted to get up and run but Brown gripped her. “Tell me it’s not true!! I have to see her!!!”

They pleaded with her to stop crying and yelling but she did not. It was impossible.

“If I can change back the hands of time my dear friend,” Rebecca said staring at Quinn on the bed. “I would. I am sorry for everything I said to you. I did not mean it and I want you to wake up and talk to me. Brown and I can finally be together and I want you to be with me as I have found true love and happiness. Please my sister, do not deny me this, I am begging you to wake up. I do not care about your sexuality and I forgive you for sleeping with Desmond. I only want you to come out from this nightmare and let everything come back to normal. I want you, Dabota and I to close as we use to. I value you, your friendship, please, please wake up and talk to me.”

Rebecca cried her eyes out.

After few days, Jake came to the hospital to give them the verdict of Desmond. He told them the judge sentenced him by hanging. Jackson came to check up on them. Despite he was no longer Quinn’s boyfriend he prayed for her to wake up and get well. Rebecca’s mother visited the hospital after Rebecca called her on the phone. She fell on her knees and begged her daughter for forgiveness.

Rebecca told her she forgave her mother but she should travel back to Canada. There was no need for her to stay. Mariam agreed. Doctor Fred announced that Quinn moved her hands but it does not mean anything.

Two days later, Doctor Fred informed Dr. Mayowa that Rebecca was strong enough to go home. He will prescribe some drugs for her to take for few weeks.

“I have been able to get in touch with Quinn’s brother.” Carrie said to Rebecca in her hospital room. “He is through with his surgery and will be coming to Nigeria in few days’ time.”

“Thank you very much Carrie.”

“You don’t have to thank me,” she said. “Quinn is the woman I love.”

Rebecca smiled at her.

“I heard you will be discharged tomorrow.”

“I am very happy for you and I believe Quinn will be happy that you are alive and becoming strong every day.”

A nurse knocked and entered with Dabota seated on a wheel chair. The nurse left them alone.

“How are you?” Rebecca asked her.

“I am fine and I came to congratulate you.”

“For what?”

“For leaving the hospital! You think it’s easy to come out from a terrible accident and be okay in two weeks?”

“But I don’t want to leave until Quinn wakes up.”

“Me too but life must go on,” Dabota said. “I want Quinn to wake up but there is nothing you can do if you stay. You should go home when the doctor discharge you and always come to check up on her. We are going to pray hard that out dear friend will wake up. It may not be today or tomorrow but one day.”

“It’s the truth.” Carrie said.

Rebecca closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She opened them and looked at her friend. “What about you?”

“The doctor insists I remain at the hospital for few days,” she replied. “He still wants to monitor my condition.”

She cleaned the tears around her eyes. She did not want them to fall. “I will blame myself if anything bad happens to Quinn.”

“You should never blame yourself,” Dabota said. “Quinn and I should never have put our hands on the steering wheel. It made the three of us lose concentration but that does not mean the driver of the trailer was not at fault. He was speeding very fast and he should have waited but everything happened in a flash.”

‘What happened to the driver?” Carrie asked.

“I really don’t know what happened to him.”

The same nurse that brought Dabota to the room came to tell her the doctor wants to examine her legs. She waived at Rebecca and Carrie before she went away.

Dr. Mayowa accompanied Rebecca to leave the hospital. As she walked slowly, she halted when she reached the reception. Doctor Fred, some other health practitioners, Dabota, Pamela, Carrie, Jackson carried a fanciful slate and written on them were the words “Will You Marry Me?”

Brown came out from the entrance door and fell on one bended knee. He directed the ring at her and asked. “Will you make me the happiest man on planet earth by saying yes to be my wife?”

All Rebecca wanted to do was cry and at the same time smile.

(Two months later)
In a sunny afternoon, men and women clothed in black stood close to a burial ground in a cemetery. Rebecca dressed in a black gown held Brown Smith’s left hand. He wore a suit and sunglasses as they watched the priest preach.

A car arrived, the sound of the vehicle made some of the sympathizers turn to look at the car owner. A good looking and better facial appearance of a man dressed in a black outfit came out. Rebecca managed to flash a dim smile at him as he moved towards them.

Hanks hugged her tightly. “How are you?”

“I am fine.” she said and released herself from him.

Brown removed his glasses and shook his hands. “Thank you for coming.”

“You don’t have to thank me,” Hanks said. “I am sorry for your loss and may your father soul rest in perfect peace.”

The lovers chorused an Amen together. They diverted their gaze to the direction of Brown’s father casket and waited for it to enter six feet into the ground.

It was all over after forty-five minutes. Some supporters came to meet Brown to wish him well and say goodbye. Hanks received a call on the phone. Pamela with tears in her eyes embraced her cousin.

“I will miss uncle Daniel.” she said. Rebecca rubbed her back gently.

“I will miss him too.” He said and gave her a peck on her forehead. “Always remember I will be there for you.”

Pamela cleaned her eyes and looked at him. “I know.” She directed her gaze to Rebecca. “Please take good care of my brother.”

She smiled cheerfully. “I promise to take good care of him.”

She sniffed her nose. “He really loves you.”

“I know.” Rebecca said and they hugged each other. “Whenever you need us, don’t hesitate to call or come to us.”

“I know.” She said with a smile and left them to meet a friend.

“Rebecca!” her father called her name as he approached them with Dabota on a wheel chair.

They were also dressed in black.

She gave a wide smile and walked side by side with Brown to meet them. “You shouldn’t have come.”

“Why?” Dabota asked. “Because I am on a wheel chair?”

Rebecca face fell.
“You need to cheer up! I am the one on a wheel chair and I am not with a sad face because I know I will walk again.”

“But it’s stressful.”

“I know but I am not giving up,” Dabota said in a serious tone. “Your father has been my supporter, my backbone and that makes me want to fight for what I desire and that is to walk again.”

“Any changes?” Brown asked.

“Yes,” she replied. “I no longer feel any pain anymore and I can move one of my legs.”

“Thank God for that,” Rebecca said. “Do you feel…?”

“I don’t want to talk about my legs anymore,” Dabota said. “It’s a boring topic.”

Rebecca laughed faintly. “You can never change.”

Dabota with a smile on her lips looked at Brown. “I am sorry for your loss. I had to come and pay my condolence.”

“Thank you for coming.” he said. “I really appreciate it.”

Dr. Mayowa shook his hands.

“Has anyone told you the engagement ring on your finger looks good on you?” Dabota asked her friend.

Rebecca and Brown glance at each other with a grin.

“Thank you for the compliment.”

“Have you come to a conclusion about the wedding date?”

“We have not decided.” Brown answered.

“Why?” Dr. Mayowa asked. “I thought you were both planning to get married after the burial?”

“Yes but Rebecca wants Dabota to walk first.”

“What?” Dabota exclaimed. “You don’t have to wait for that! Nothing stops me from attending.”

“But I will like to dance with my bridesmaid.” Rebecca said in a sober tone.

She widened her eyes. “Am I going to be your bridesmaid?”

Dabota stretched out her hands for Rebecca to hold. “Nothing stops me from becoming your maid of honor. There is no need for you to wait for me to walk but I promise to work harder and look good for you on your special day.”

“So what do you wants us to do?”

“Fix a date.”

“If that is what you want, no problem.” They all wore a cheery face. Hanks walked up to them and greeted Dr. Mayowa and Dabota before he faced Rebecca.

“I have to go now.”

“I hope you are not in a hurry?” Rebecca asked. “I was thinking of following you home after my father and Dabota leaves.”

“Better because I was on the phone with Carrie and she says Quinn has been shouting at her.”

“Why?” she asked in a dazed tone.

“It’s because I refused to take her along with me.”

“Quinn should know she’s still recovering,” Dabota said. “She should know she needs enough rest and take her medication seriously.”

“Have you forgotten she is very stubborn?” Hanks asked and turned to Brown. “Quinn wants to pay her last respect to your father, that’s all.”

“I understand but her health matters the most,” Brown added. “We should all give thanks to God for sparing her life. It wasn’t easy.”

“If not that I came on time, the doctor would have pulled the plug.”

“I won’t have allowed it to happen,” Rebecca said. “I believed and hoped that she would wake up one day.”

“It’s been three weeks since she woke up and she still feels pain sometimes. I worry about that.”

Rebecca touched his right shoulder tenderly. “It’s just a matter of time,” she said. “Remember she could not talk when she woke up and it was the second week she started to speak.”

“And now she is shouting.” Dabota said and all of them began to laugh.

“I am so happy for everything,” Rebecca dropped her hand from Hanks shoulder. “What would have happened if she never woke up? I know my life would never have been the same.”

“Me too.”

“We should go see her together.” Dr. Mayowa said. “I think she will stop screaming when she sees us.”

“You are right father.” Rebecca said in a thrilled tone.

When they arrived, Carrie welcomed them. She hugged everyone and led the way to Quinn’s room. The actress was sitting down taking her drugs. Immediately the door opened, she looked and saw her friends entering to meet her. She quickly rose up. Rebecca gave her a warm hug. The artist left the room.

Quinn touched Dabota’s chin. “I will kill Hanks when I see him!”

“He’s in the living room taking a glass of beer.” Rebecca said.

“What strength do you have?” Dabota asked in a teased tone. “There’s no need to boast because you have no strength anymore.”

“So you came to my house to abuse me?” Quinn asked playfully.

“Sit down and relax madam. Go and rest and get well because a wedding is coming up soon.”

Quinn face lightened up! “I can’t wait for the wedding. I am excited to hear the good news.”

“Allow us to fix the date before you start announcing the wedding.” Rebecca said.

“That’s your own cup of tea.” Dabota added.

“There’s something I have to tell the both of you.” Quinn said, still standing.

“I hope there’s no problem?” Rebecca asked.

Quinn shook her head. “I don’t think its a problem, I… I will..I will be relocating after I get better.”

“What!!!” The two of them bellowed.

“You have to understand my friends,” she said. “I will travel but later it will be later. I want to be able to be with Carrie and have a life of my own. I will be relocating to America.”

“What about your career?” Rebecca questioned.

“I have to let go of it,” she said in a drained voice. “I will start a business, maybe catering business. Do not forget I love to cook. The both of you must have heard Desmond’s mother died and his son is living with the man we saw the day we went there together.”

“What about it?”

“I have come to a conclusion to adopt Damon and take him with me when I travel. I will take good care of him like my own son. Maureen should not die for nothing. Her son needs to be taken good care of.”

Dabota smiled at her. “I am proud to have a friend like you.”

“You are amazing!” Rebecca said in a pleased tone. “But I will miss you.”

“I will miss the both of you but it will not stop us from calling each other every day.” Quinn said and went back to sit down on her bed, she was already getting weak. “I am very happy and I am so glad I will be part of your big day. Where is Brown?”

“He is in the living room with my father.”

“I will definitely see them later,” she said and lay on her bed. “Anytime I take my drugs, I’m always feeling tired and sleepy.”

“We should leave you alone to rest.”

“Thanks Becca.”

“Only Brown is allowed to call me that,” she said in a playful tone.

“Not only Brown,” Dabota said. “It will be purple and green.” The three of them burst out in amusement.

(One month later)
Rebecca Mayowa dressed in a stunning white wedding gown, standing in front of her true love Brown Smith. He wore a white suit. Jackson stood as the best man and Dabota as the bridesmaid held a flower in her left hand and a walking stick. She was no longer on a wheel chair but leaped.

Priest….We are gathered here for the union of Rebecca Mayowa and Brown Smith…….”

(Wedding vows)                                                                                                                             Brown…” The princess of my life,” he said to Rebecca. “The one who makes my heart beat very fast. This is the happiest day of my life because you have become my wife. I will love and protect you. I will be there to hold you whenever you need me. Rebecca, I promise to make you very happy for the rest of our lives together.”

Rebecca...” The prince of my life,” she said to Brown as tears of joy drained from her eyes. “I will stand by your side. I will love you until death do us apart. This is also the happiest day of my life. You have no idea how delighted I am to finally feel safe and loved by a good man. We are going to grow old together and forever we will be together.”

The Priest spoke,” By the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride.”

Brown Smith with pleasure delightfully compressed his lips into her mouth. He consumed every corner of her lips that tasted like honey to him. The tantalizing emotion that absorbed him could not allow him to stop.
That pastor cleared his throat loudly for the new couple to free themselves from tearing their lips apart.
Family and friends seated in the congregation laughed and clapped. It was a great moment for Dr. Mayowa to see his daughter happy again.

Hanks sat close to Pamela and asked her. “Would you love to hang out with me?”

“Of course,” she replied. “But as long as you don’t bite.”

He grinned. “Not at all.”

Mr. Brown and Mrs. Rebecca Smith went to the dance floor and danced to “All of Me” song by John Legend. The groom dedicated the song to his wife. When the Dj changed the genre to hip-hop, she whispered into her husband’s ear. He nodded in agreement, to what she told him. Brown left her side to sit down and Rebecca turned to her friends and stretched out her two hands for them to join her on the dance floor. They had no choice but to comply.

Rebecca, Dabota and Quinn danced and giggled together. It was beautiful moment to have the three of them happy together again. Their friendship was irreplaceable.

Brown made an eye contact with Rebecca and he blew a kiss to her. The pretty bride face beamed with pleasure because she knew she had made the perfect choice.
