The next morning, Officer Rose woke up early and made two calls. First was to Kate Kelechi to bring the pregnancy report to the station but she said it was not possible for her to come. She was going to send her lawyer because she was going to be very busy organizing her husband's burial. The second call was to Nkechi, informing her she would like to see her. Rose had her bath, dressed into a fitted black suit, dashed into her car, and drove off to her place of work. When she reached, Nkechi was already waiting for her. Rose led her into the interrogation room. They sat, facing each other. Nkechi set down her hands on the table.
“Thank you for coming,” said Rose. “Did you ever have any relationship with the victim Mr. Kelechi?”

Nkechi face changed into a mystified one. “Officer, I thought you called me about my job?"

“I spoke to your boss. I am sure he will do something positive about it. Now, can you answer my question?”
Nkechi lips mumbled silently.
“Yes or no Miss Nkechi, did you ever have any relationship with the victim?”
She removed her hands from the table and relaxed them on her laps. Her eyes were teary. “What kind of relationship are you taking about?"
“Sexual.” Rose answered.
“Who is responsible for your pregnancy?”
Her eyes poked out. “How did you find out I am pregnant?”
“Should it be kept a secret? I thought it was a thing of joy when your fiancé is responsible. Anyways, your boss told me. Who is responsible?”
“You said it yourself, my fiancé is responsible,” She said with anger in her voice.
A male officer knocked twice before he entered. He informed Rose a lawyer sent her a report. He left them alone after giving it to her. Rose unsealed the envelope and read it. She confirmed it to be true.
Rose raised the report up. “Here with me is a report of your pregnancy.”
“How did you get it?” she asked surprised.
“The wife of the victim found it in her residence. Mrs. Kate Kelechi saw your report inside one of the belongings of her husband.”
The shock robbed her of speaking. Her eyes and mouth opened.
“You better start talking or I will arrest you for the murder of the victim and Mr. Osaro's wife.”
“I didn’t kill them. I would never have killed the father of my unborn child.” Her eyes were filled with burning tears, she was sobbing uncontrollably.
“But you lied never to have a sexual relationship with him?”
She wiped off her face with her hands. “I…I.. was afraid you will suspect me. I had nothing to do with their deaths. I loved Edward Kelechi.”
“You knew he was having an affair with the manager’s wife. You have a motive of eliminating the two of them.”
“Yes I knew about the affair but he promised to break up with her.”
“But he didn’t. I don’t need to talk too much.” Rose said. "Did you lose any item he presented to you?”
                                                                                                                                                                    Nkechi shook her head.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.” Her eyes were swollen and red after all the crying.
Rose took out a transparent nylon from her pocket. She brought out the necklace. “Is this not yours?”
She leaned close to visualize it. “Yes but how did you get it?”
“It was found at the crime scene.”

She looked dumbfounded. “In room 16?”

“But I…….”
"You what?” Rose asked out of intolerance.
“Maybe it’s not mine. I gave mine to my fiancé. He asked for it and he has not returned it.”
“The late Kelechi asked for it back?”
She shook her head, almost in tears. “No. Kelechi was never my fiancé. It is unethical for coworkers to date each other at the motel. It has been a secret between him and me.”
“What’s his name?”
Rose stared at her in wonder. “Are you the one Dele was planning to get married to?”
She nodded. “How did you know?”
“Kate Kelechi told me he was saving to have his own business and get married.” She rose on her feet. “You are going to remain in custody. I need to see Dele immediately.”
“Her eyebrows rose. “Am I under arrest?”
“Not yet, not until I find out the truth.
Another female police accompanied Officer Rose to the motel. They headed straight to the bar section immediately they arrived. Dele was busy serving drinks, when he nearsighted her, his face changed severely. He left what he was doing and went directly to meet her.
“Any problem Officer?” He asked.
She refused to answer his question. “The day your friend died, the period he was killed, you informed me you went for a walk. Not only that, you quickly asked for an excuse from the manager to go home briefly. That should be the time you went to eliminate the woman. My instincts were correct that the woman knew her killer. If you actually went home, do you have an alIbi?"
His face turned into a straight one. “I live alone. I have no alibi.”
“Why did you kill Mr. Osaro’s wife?”
“I didn’t kill anybody.”
“Nkechi is at the police station.” She said.
He raised his voice. “What is she doing there?”
“She’s under arrest for the murder of Mr. Kelechi.”
“But she didn’t kill him!”
Her left eyebrow went upwards. “How did you know?”
Dele stammered. “She…c..can’t…do.suc..h a thing.”
“You are under arrest for the murder of Mr. Kelechi and Mrs. Osaro.” The other officer handcuffed his hands.

"I am innocent!"
Rose looked at him in the eyes. “The necklace you took from Nkechi was found at the crime scene covered in blood. The killer hand prints were on the murder weapon. Your DNA will be used to see if there's a match. You are guilty, you were in his room the day he died.”
Dele hardened his face. “He deserved it. He deserved to die!”
“But his death can’t bring back your money?”
“You think it was all about the money?” he asked harshly. “He was sleeping with my woman. I did not even know not until I saw the necklace. I followed him to a jewelry shop to buy it. I thought it was for his wife or one of his numerous girlfriends. I never knew it was for Nkechi, not until I saw it round her neck. When I asked her where she got it from, Nkechi lied she bought it for herself.”
“What about the manager’s wife?” Rose asked him. “What did she ever do to you?”
He laughed wickedly. “She had a loud mouth! I went to see him in his room that day to ask for my money and to confront him about Nkechi. The animal told the manager’s wife about the money he owned me. She laughed at me, mocking me, asking me how a lowlife can borrow a rich man such a huge amount of money. That I was incapable of handling my own money, I threatened to reveal her illicit affair to her husband if she didn’t shut her mouth and leave the room. She left instantly. I asked Kelechi about Nkechi and the necklace, he told me she was pregnant for him and I should go to hell. We got into an argument, I was mad at him, out of anger I took the iron artwork on the table and hit him on his head. I had no idea the necklace fell from my hand.”
“You took his money from his wallet and phone right?”
“Yes I did.”
“You were not satisfied; you still killed the manager’s wife.”
“She was the last person to see the both of us together. What do you think I would have done?”
All officer Rose did was shook her head. They took Dele to the police station. Rose let Nkechi go. She informed Mr. Osaro the news over the phone. He thanked her for a job well done. He cried hard. Kate Kelechi did not still feel remorseful when Rose Bamidele informed her about the killer being captured, she was only shocked it was done by Dele.
The end.
