Episode 7 Title: Love and Mystery
*****
Quincy eyes penetrated into mine.
His lips moved but no sound or words came out. I guess he was speechless of
what I told him. It was the truth and I had to let it out. Doctor Ibinabo
excused us and left the room for the two of us to talk. He came closer and took
my hands to hold.
“You love me?” he asked me in a
serene tone.
“Yes.” I whispered to him.
He released my hands and covered
his face. I could see he was smiling ear to ear. He dropped them down and
focused his glare at me. “I don’t know
what to say Genny. You are impossible to read. I never thought you could tell
me such. You are an amazing woman and I am too excited to do anything or tell
you how happy I am right now. You have made me so happy! I just want you to look
into my eyes and tell me one more time that you love me and it’s for real.”
“It’s for real Quincy,” I said.
“Sincerely, I didn’t expect me to let out what I feel for you. I think it’s the
best thing to do. I love you and I am not ashamed to say it. I just want you to
know that I am scared of getting hurt. For the period we have worked together, I
have found true happiness that I cannot describe. I like the way you look at me
and I do not want you to stop. In my past, I have passed through a lot in the
hands of my late father. You have given me a reason for me to open my heart to
you. I beg you in the name of Almighty God do not break my heart. I will not be
able to handle it. You are the first man I have felt this way for. I have never
been with any man that I can call a boyfriend.”
Quincy stared at me with a
confused expression on his face. “You have never been in a relationship
before?”
I shook my head.
“Are you a virgin?” he asked.
I swallowed and an immense rush
of anxiety slipped into my body. “No.”
“I don’t understand you Genny.”
“It’s a long story and I don’t
think I should hide it from you anymore. My conscience will continue to judge
me if I continue to keep it has a secret. My…”
He stopped me by placing his
middle finger on my lips. “This is not the right place to discuss about your
past. I want you to wait and relax, let me go call doc Ibinabo to do her job.
We need to go home.” He took away his finger from my mouth.
“What about the office?” I asked.
“Detective Akin went to see if he can get witness at the crime scene of the
shooting.”
“We can’t go back to the office.
I will contact some of the detectives that we cannot make it back to work. I cannot
go there because if I do, I will be force to make Jasmine pay for what she
did.”
I sighed. I knew what I was about
to tell him could make him more angry but I had to. “Jasmine was not trying to
kill me.”
He looked at me angrily. “And
what is that supposed to mean?”
“She was only trying to make me
fall sick and stay at home while she continues to be the one to attend to you.”
“She’s not the only female
detective in the NIB.”
“I know but you are closer to
Jasmine and I. She tried to keep me away from you but it didn’t work. I am
getting okay and the pain has relieved me.”
“Not completely.”
“Doctor Ibinabo will give me
drugs to take home.”
“Why are you defending Jasmine? I
don’t like what you are doing!”
“I am not defending her. I am
only telling you the decision I want to make.”
“And what is the decision?”
I rose up on my feet, took a deep
breath, walked up to him and touched him slightly on the shoulder. “If you
truly care a lot about me, you will have to respect my decision. I will not
discuss this incident with her. I will not accuse Jasmine of poisoning me.”
He stepped backwards instantly
with an irritated look on his face. “Why are you doing this?!”
“This is what I want.”
“If you really love and value
me,” he said. “You won’t be talking like this. If you cannot face her, I will
for you!”
“Please respect my decision. I
know what I am doing.”
“I will tell you the truth, I am
not happy with you.” He didn’t allow me say anything but stormed out and left
all alone. I went back to sit down, took out my phone from my pocket and called
my mom. If something terrible had happened to me, I would not have been able to
see my sister.
“Genny Genny my baby,” she said
after I greeted her. “How are you?”
“I’m fine. I called to let you
know I will follow you to see Jennifer this weekend.”
“Oh I am grateful my daughter! I
am sure she will be very happy to see you!”
“And I will be happy to see her
too.” I smiled. “How do we travel together?”
“Anyhow you want it my daughter.”
“I want you to come before
Saturday so that we can go together. I will drive there.”
“Okay.” She said and kept silent
for some seconds. “Genny are you okay?”
“I am fine mom,” I lied to her.
“I am only stressed because of work."
“I understand. Please get enough
rest at home.”
“I will.” I ended the call and
waited patiently for the man I love and the doctor. The both of them came back
fifteen minutes later. Quincy was holding a thick white nylon.
“What happened?” I questioned
them. “Why are the both of you just coming?”
He answered. “I went to buy your
drugs at the pharmacy. I met people there so I had to wait for my turn.”
“Okay.”
Doctor Ibinabo gave me the
prescription on the drugs. She begged me to eat well before I take them. I
thanked her greatly and my partner and I left. We walked side by side together
to the car and Quincy drove to a fast food joint to buy some takeaway food for
us to eat at home. We arrived at his abode; I went straight to the bathroom to
have my bath. I wore my white towel and looked at the mirror. I was exultant
that finally, I have a man to call my own. It has been a wonderful journey to
work with a remarkable man. We started as enemies, then partners, friends and
now lovers. The only thing that was making my heart pound harder beneath my chest was
what will be his reaction when I open up about my unfortunate and sad past.
I heard a knock on my door and I
left the bathroom to answer him.
“Do you want to sleep in the
bathroom?” he asked with a smile dancing on his sexy lips. I longed for his
lips on mine but I was not brave enough to make the move on him. He had also
freshened up and he wore a white polo only and a blue trouser.
I grinned. “Are you no longer
angry with me?”
“Angry with you?”
“About Jasmine.”
The smile remained on his lips. “I
cannot force you to do what you do not want. If that is what you feel is right,
no problem. I respect your decision.”
“Thank you.”
“What about your tummy?” he
asked.
“It’s still paining me but it’s
not like before.”
“Dress up and come to the dinning
to eat. You need to take your drugs.”
“You are beginning to behave like
my aunt.”
Quincy flared up in laughter and
stepped backwards. “Be fast. Don’t make me come in there and dress you up!”
I giggled and quickly shut the
door to wear my clothes.
*****
I joined him at the dining table
to eat. While we ate, he kept staring at me. His face beamed hard. He helped
cleared the dishes and disposed the packs in the waste bin. I took my drugs and
went to the dinning to watch a James Bond movie, titled Spectre. Quincy came to
sit by my side.
He cleared his throat loudly and
I turned to look at him.
“You have my attention if that is
what you want.” I plainly said to him.
He smiled faintly and took the
remote to reduce the volume of the television.
“We need to talk,” he said. “I
want you to tell me about your past.”
Fear rushed into me. My lips were
shaking of spilling out the truth to him. He noticed I was apprehensive with my
body gesture.
“Relax Genny,” he said. “If you
think it’s not important, let’s forget about it.”
It’s important.” I said. “I am
only scared.”
Quincy touched me lightly on the
arm. “Scared about what?” he asked in a concerned tone.
“That if I tell you the truth
about my past,” I replied in a nervous tone. “ You might not love me anymore.”
“This is your past Genny. I
cannot judge you with that. We are going to concentrate on the future and not
the past.”
“I love your father very much
because he gave me so much to live for. When I told him about my past, he never blamed or
judged me. He encouraged me to work hard and be a better person. That is why I
am eager to know the truth about his death. He showed me fatherly love and I can
never forget him. My father raped me.”
“What!!!” he exclaimed. “Your
father did what?!”
“I was raped several times by
him.”
“I…I …don…don’t get you. What
about your mother? I know you told me she abandoned you but why would she leave
you when your father molested you?”
I explained everything to him.
The day she ran away, how she came back to take me and he tortured my mother.
“What kind of a man would do that
to his daughter and mother? He was a monster. My goodness! May God forgive me
for what I am about to say. I am happy he died in his sleep!”
“He did not! He did not die in
his sleep. I lied, I lied! I have been lying to you!”
“Huh? What are you talking about?
What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I killed him!” I uttered and
burst into loud sobs. “My mother ran away with my sister when I was eleven
years old. My ruthless father turned me into his sex machine, his slave! He was
going to rape me that night. I was seventeen at that time when I shot him, and
I could not take it anymore when he came on top of me. I took his gun and
threatened him with it but I was insulted, ridiculed! He was going to come
after me, beat me up and rape me. I had no choice but to stop him. I fired the
shot! I desperately wanted to be saved. No one was there to save me! I had to
save myself because if he had raped me that particular day, I would have committed
suicide.”
Silence.
I looked at him with heated tears
in my eyes and I could see him staring at me dumbfounded. My lips and hands
were shaking.
“Please Quincy,” I continued to
talk with shaky and teary voice. “Tell me you still love me.”
He uplifted on his feet. My
watery eyes followed him as he came to stand in front of me. He took my hands
and raised me up.
“You defended yourself!” he said
out audibly and touched my face to wipe my tears gently. “You fought for your
freedom, your self-respect and your integrity! I still love you deeply and I
love you more for telling me the truth. Who am I to judge you? We all have our
past and I respect you for not keeping it away from me. Thank you for that.”
“I…”
Quincy cut me short of my
sentence and cleaned very close.
He munched his entire lips into mine in a sensual way. We closed our eyes as I kissed him back. The
feeling, smell and touch kept me locked up in an imaginary world. As we licked
each other lower lips and tongues, I imagined Quincy and myself in a castle as I
sat by his side,as he’s queen and Quincy my king. I did not want him to let go
of me. As if he knew what I was thinking about, he captured my full lips, grabbed me
by the waist, rubbed my buttocks and carefully laid me on the long sofa in his
living room.”
“I love you Genny,” he muttered
into my left ear and went back to eat my lips. "I love you very much."
“I love you.” I said it back to
him.
He came down to kissing and
licking my neck. I shivered under him and I wrapped my legs around him.
Quincy looked directly into my
eyes and smiled brightly. “Good girl.” he said softly and came down to my
chest. He removed my blouse and pushed his mouth into my nipple. He was
fondling my other breast. I romanced his back with my hands as he continued to
play with my boobs passionately.
His tempting touch made me
extremely wet but I was not ready to make love to him. I wanted it to be
special, have an intimate dinner, talk about the future and end up on his bed, rock
his body and sleep on his chest.
“Please stop.” I said.
He raised his head up and stared
at me with a puzzled facial appearance. “Did I do anything wrong?”
I shook my head. “I am not ready
to have sex.”
Quincy only smiled, pecked my
lips and freed me of his touch. He stood up and I sat down, took my blouse
quickly and wore it. I was a bit shy as his eyes stroked my body and I also did
not want him to see the huge scar on my back.
“Be free with me. Your body
belongs to me now.”
“But I have not accepted to be
your lover.”
“Then why did you kiss me?” he
asked and tried to use his hand to stop his manhood from protruding further. I
looked away and kept my glare on the TV.
“You should ask me officially.” I
said in a jovial tone.
Quincy still stayed far but he
went on one bended knee. “Will you be my girlfriend?”
I laughed. “Of course, but why
are you not sitting beside me?”
“You will tempt me if I come
close to you.”
I grinned and shook my head. I
went on my feet. “I should go to bed now.”
“What about your stomach?” he
asked concerned.
“I am okay. I think the drugs are
effective."
“That’s good.” He said. “I will
still be here. Good night love.”
“Sleep tight Quincy.”
*****
The next morning, I went to say
hello to Quincy. He was still on his bed naked. He stretched his hand forward
and asked me to join him.
“Get up!” I spat out and hurried
out of his room to mine. I undressed and had my bath, did my morning chores,
made breakfast smiling as if I won a lottery.
Being in love with Quincy was a
blessing. I served the both of us fried eggs, sausages and two slices of bread
each. He was neatly dressed, looking smart and pleasing.
“You will go to the office
alone.” He said after we finished breakfast.
“Why?”
“I will be going to dress my wound
and talk with the doctor that attended to me. I want Jasmine to see you fit and
strong.”
“So you don’t want to witness the
shock on her face, right?”
“I will be forced to accuse of
attempted murder. I hope I don’t see her throughout today.”
“Please if you do, try and not to
say anything about it.”
“I won’t.” he followed me to my car,
pecked me on the cheek. I entered my vehicle and drove away.
On my way, I met no traffic. I
got to the office in five minutes. I greeted some of the detectives in their
offices before proceeding to mine. The glow on my face glued permanently as I
entered my office. Jasmine widened her dazed eyes. She blinked twice as if she
had seen a long lost friend. I saluted Leroy, Oscar and Akin before I sat down
and prayed a short prayer.
“How was your night?” Jasmine asked
without looking straight into my eyes. I could tell she was not a peace seeing
me at the office. She was looking better with her look. She was no longer on
low cut but with a fine wig.
“I slept like a baby.” I said
smiling at her.
She rose up, took her phone from
the table. “Excuse me.” she said and walked out of the door.
“Is there something you want to
say?” Leroy asked, with a bright smile on his lips. He was staring at my
direction.
“What do you mean?”
“You are glowing,” he said. “I
mean, did you win a huge amount of money?”
When he mentioned money, I
remembered I had not gone to see late Julius mother at the hospital, at least
to know her condition. I planned to talk to Akin about it in private later in
the day. Jasmine came inside and sat down.
“I did not win a huge amount of
money.” I said and I purposely removed the smile on my lips and spoke in a
serious tone. “There is something I want to talk to the three of you about. Its
about my personal life and it’s important the three of you know.”
“What is it about?” Jasmine asked
with a frown on her face. “Have you told Oscar that Quincy is in love with
you.”
“Do not be a bitch this morning,”
I said to her in an annoyed tone. “It is very early to act this way.”
Oscar appeared shocked with the
look written on his face. Jasmine hissed and Leroy roared in laughter and clapped his
hands. Akin got on his feet, ready to leave the office for the four of us.
“There is no need for that
detective Akin,” I said. “You can sit down. You are already one of us.” He
accommodated himself back on his chair.
“Is it true that Quincy is in
love with you?” Oscar asked.
“I know this will come as a
surprise,” I said softly. “Yes and I am in love.”
“You are in love?” he asked
stunned.
Leroy rose up on his feet. “This
is good news! At last! Detective Cole, you can finally be in love? This is more
than winning a huge amount of money.” He spread out his arms for a hug. I got
up and we embraced. “I am very happy for you. I can’t wait to tell Chisom about
it.”
“Thank you.” I said and sat on
my desk. He stayed by my side.
“Is it Quincy you are in love
with?” Jasmine asked.
I riveted my glare at Oscar. He opened
his mouth wide and was shaking his head.
“I am sorry if I am going to hurt
you one more time,” I said directly to him in a sensitive attitude. “I love
Yvonne so much. It was an honor for you to think I will make a good mother to
her. I will forever care so much about her if you allow me remain in her life.
I…”
“Do not preach Genevieve,” he
finally opened his mouth to speak in an emotional tone. “Is it Quincy? Do you
love Quincy Harvey?”
“You should be happy for me.”
“Answer me!!” he barked at me
with furious eyes.
“Don’t shout at her!” Leroy spoke
out. “I know you have every reason to be angry but still, she is your friend
and you should be happy that she has found love.”
“Is that what you will say?” he
asked angrily. “If Chisom treated you this way, would you be happy with her?”
“Do you two want to argue and
fight over Genevieve for falling in love?” Akin asked. Jasmine eyed him from
head to toe.
“I do not want to argue anymore.”
Leroy said.
Oscar looked at me, waiting for
an answer.
“I am in love with Quincy Harvey
and we are in a committed relationship.”
“What!! Tell me this is not
true!”
“Shit!” Jasmine spat out. She
uplifted and placed her hands on the table. “Since when?”
“Yesterday.”
Leroy clapped his hands again. “I
am proud of you detective Cole. You deserve to be loved!”
“After all my pleads to you?”
Oscar questioned me. I could see he was teary. “What did I do wrong? Tell me
and I will make things right. If it is the way I dress you do not like, I am
ready to change it. What did I do wrong for you to break my heart?”
“I am sorry! You did not do me
any wrong, I was the one who did you wrong. I fell in love unexpectedly. All of
a sudden, I saw myself falling I love with a man I never liked.”
‘Lies!” Jasmine blurted out. “I
don’t think I should be in this office with you right now. I need to be alone
and let out my feelings to the air. You are nothing but a liar and back
stabber! You knew how I felt about him and you went ahead to profess your love
to him. I even begged you to talk to him for me. I am sure you did not! Clap
for yourself, oh no, no need for that. Your best friend and supporter Leroy
already clapped on your behalf.”
“You won’t understand. Quincy
fell in love with me first.”
Jasmine was fuming out in anger, and
she stormed out of the office and banged the door very loud.
“This is not over Genevieve.”
Oscar said. “This isn’t over.” He left the office.
“No one is ever wrong for falling
in love,” Leroy said to me. “I think our boss is a good man. I believe he will
take good care of you. I wish the both of you good luck.”
“Thanks!”
I checked my time on my
wristwatch, and it was 9:35am. I went back to my chair and took a deep breath
in and out. I felt a bit relieved that they knew I was having an affair with
the boss. I took the newspaper on the table to read the headlines. The news of
fuel scarcity was all over. After voting for change, a better Nigeria, we got a
horrible economy as a reward. The president is travelling on a daily bases without looking
into the predicament of the masses, the people that voted and wanted him to represent the
country. Other countries that look up to us, that knows Nigeria as the giant of Africa
will begin to have a rethink. The country
is in jeopardy as people queue with jerry cans and even their generators to buy
petrol.
“What is really going on in this
country?” I asked Leroy. I wanted to start a conversation with him. “All the
prices are up, no electricity. I am fed up.”
He dropped the file he was holding on
the table. “Don’t be my dear. The president might know what he is doing. He
knows we are suffering and I think his travelling oversees has reasons and it
will benefit us in future.”
“When is the future?”
“It could be tomorrow or next
month. Let us give him time. I am sure the fuel crisis will be sorted out
soon.”
I shook my head. An argument with
him over the president was going to take forever.
“I know you are not really keen
on entertainment news but did you hear what happened between that blogger that
bought a house in Banana Island in Lagos and that proud musician?”
“You mean Linda Ikeji and
Wizkid?”
“Exactly.” He said. “Chisom won’t
let me rest on top their matter. She is always talking about it whenever I am
with her. Instead of her to be anxious to pop out my first child, she is arguing
over successful people making millions. I think you should come over to the
house and talk about it with her.”
I laughed and said, “I heard
about it but I did not pay attention to it. I think we should all be
concerned about the high rate of dollars and the amount of babymamas in
Nigeria!”
Akin joined Leroy to laugh. I
guessed what I said was funny. I also
laughed with them. A detective knocked and entered the office. He informed me
Quincy was back and he wanted to see me. I thanked him and went to meet the
director.
*****
“Welcome.” I said to him
immediately I strolled in. He got up and came to give me a peck on the lips. “I
hope everything went well at the hospital?”
“Yes,” he replied. “Have you told
them about us?”
“I have and it wasn’t easy. Leroy
and Akin are both happy for us.”
“Jasmine came to meet me after I
came out from my car.”
“What did she say?”
“She said she wished me good luck
and that if I have found true happiness with you, then it is her destiny to
find someone else.”
“Should we believe her?”
“I really don’t know. When will you
let her know about the poison stuff?”
“I don’t know. I am concerned
about Oscar. He did not take the news very well.”
“What did you expect him to do?
Give you a bear hug?”
“I really care about his daughter
but I don’t love him.”
“Don’t ever stop to show that little girl love.”
“I won’t.”
Akin knocked and came inside. He
greeted the boss and congratulated him for capturing my heart.
“Thank you detective Akin.”
Quincy said. “What can I do for you?”
“I am here to inform the both of
you that I was not able to get a witness on your case. I am sorry sir.”
“It’s okay.” He said and touched
his chin. “The truth will come out one day. I know whoever shot me is connected
to the murder of my father. When we crack the case, we will surely know the shooter.”
“So what are we going to do now?”
I asked.
“We will lay low on the case for
now because I do not want to stress myself.
When I am ready to continue the case, I will let the two of you know.”
“Okay sir.” Akin said.
I nodded and asked. “Do you have
anything on Julius’s mother?”
He faced changed intensely into a
sad one. “I didn’t want to tell you the bad news.”
“She died?”
“Yesterday morning. Before I went
to the crime scene, I went to the hospital to check up on her.”
“I am sure she could not take the
news of the death of her son. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome ma.”
******
Quincy and I had lunch together
at the cafeteria. We were going back inside the main building after eating ng when
some cars came in convoyed. We both recognized the man who came out from the
back seat of the latest Range Rover. He had bodyguards. He was the politician that
was kind enough to tell my boss he wanted to donate to the NIB in Delta state.
We walked towards the governor
aspirant, greeted him and shook his hands. Quincy also introduced me to him as detective Genevieve Cole.
“I never knew a beautiful woman
could work for the NIB.” Efe Oghenetega said looking at me.
“She is not only beautiful but
very smart.” Quincy said with a broad smile. “She is the love of my life.”
The man laughed and pointed at
him with his right finger. “You are smart enough to let me know on time.”
Tega told us he brought the generator and the other things Quincy listed. They were inside the truck. Some of his officials and the driver of the truck went to the boot and started offloading them.
Tega told us he brought the generator and the other things Quincy listed. They were inside the truck. Some of his officials and the driver of the truck went to the boot and started offloading them.
“I want you to tell detective
Akin and Abu to come out and place the things in order." he said to me. "They should know where to keep them.”
“Yes sir.”
Quincy also ordered me to call
detective Leroy, Jasmine, and three other detectives that was not from the
homicide department for him. He took the politician to his office. I did as he said and
six of us went to the boss office.
The director introduced the male
detectives first before Jasmine. When it was her turn, Tega did not let go of
her hand.
“You are a very pretty young
lady.”
“Thank you sir!” she said in an
exited tone. “You are looking good sir.”
“Thank you. What is your name
again?”
“Jasmine.”
“I will love to see you before I
leave.”
“No problem sir.”
I shook my head and thought he
was nothing but a cheap chronic womanizer. It will only make matter worse if I
tell her that she should be careful with a politician. He can give her money,
trips abroad and valuables but she can never have his heart. He was also a
married man.
We thanked him for the stuffs he
brought.
“I hope you have worked on the
award show for the detectives?” Tega asked Quincy.
“Some detectives are still
working on that.” He replied. “I will inform you about it when we are ready.”
“I really want to show
appreciation to hard working detectives. It is not easy to fight cases
especially when you are in the homicide department. That one is very
complicated because theg are always at risk when they are trying to catch
murderers. When I become governor, I will make sure all of you don’t lack anything.”
“Thank you sir. You are very
kind.”
“I believe it is my duty to the
right thing for strong and diligent men and women.”
We left them to talk in privacy.
They were in the office for close to twenty minutes before the politician came
out. Jasmine went to see him inside his car before he left. Oscar was not yet
back from where he went. I was a bit worried, so I called his number. He
refused to pick, sent me a text that I should leave him alone.
Later in the evening, I drove
behind Quincy. We were heading to his house. I was surprised when he averted to
another direction. I called him on the phone, and asked him where we were
heading to.
“Just follow me,” he said. “You
will find out when we get there.”
I cut the call and continued to
drive through his path. We got to a particular road and it occurred to me we
were moving towards the route to my house. I became confused. We reached my
abode and parked the cars outside.
“Why are we in my house?” I asked after we came out of our cars.
Quincy chuckled and gave my left
arm a fragile squeeze before kissing me on my lips. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” I said. “You
have not answered me.”
“We are here to collect your
remaining things.”
“But I have not concluded I will
stay with you.”
“I have told you, you are not
coming back to stay here. You are not safe in your house.”
“No where is safe.”
“At least, we will be together and
we will be able to watch each other backs. You will stay with me until we solve the
mystery behind my father’s death.”
He's phone began to ring. He answered the call. He spoke for few minutes before
he cut the red button.
“You won’t believe who called me
right now.” He said to me."
“Who?” I inquired.
He sighed and answered. “Another
candidate of the upcoming governorship election.”
“Are you serious? Which party?”
“APC.”
“Honorable James Ayiri.”
“Yes."
"I remember he came to see your dad at the office last year but he left very angry."
"Why?"
"I have no idea."
"I really do not know what these men want from me or the NIB.”
"I remember he came to see your dad at the office last year but he left very angry."
"Why?"
"I have no idea."
"I really do not know what these men want from me or the NIB.”
“They want protection. They don’t
want to be assassinated.”
“Are you saying we should risk
our lives for them?” Quincy asked in a disturbed tone.
“That is not what I mean. What
else will they want from us if not protection during the election?”
“I really don’t know but he wants
to have a meeting with me. Hon Ayiri did not say when exactly. He will let me
know before Saturday.”
“Okay.” I said. “Let’s go in.”
“That tells me you have agreed to
stay.”
I gave an honest smile. “Let’s go
in now or I will change my mind!”
An old woman, a neighbor who was
strolling came to meet us. Quincy and I greeted her.
“Where have you been?” she asked
me.
“I have not been around ma.”
“I thought you parked out of the
house. I made up my mind that you are no longer living in this neighborhood
when I saw two men in front of your door two days ago.”
“Two men in front of my door?” I asked
surprised. “What were they doing there?”
“I was passing by and I saw them
standing at your doorstep.”
“Did they park any car in front
of the house?” Quincy asked.
“I think so,” she replied. “I can’t
really remember.”
“It’s okay ma. Thank you for
telling her.”
She smiled at us and left our
premises.
Quincy added. “I don’t think we
should panic, maybe they were looking for someone and went to the wrong house.
She saw them at your doorstep and not inside your house.”
“I think so too.”
Quincy held my right hand with
his left, dip his right hand into his trouser pocket and brought out the key
to my entrance door.
“Clever man,” I said to him still
smiling. “You carried my key and myself to my house without my permission, smart
move.”
He grinned and he inserted the
key into the key hole. He tried to open it but it was unlocked.
“Did you forget to lock the door
the day we came?” he asked.
“No. I locked it with my key.”
My heartbeat was racing fast. He
released my hand and took out his pistol from the back of his trouser. I forgot
mine in the office.
“I want you to stay behind me,”
he said and opened the door gently. “I don’t want to take any risk.” We
stepped inside, and we stood on our feet, shocked! My living room was
scattered. My couches, tables were upside down. He shut the door and used the
key. “I think we are alone. Let’s go to your room."
We went there. The room I left
clean and tidy was in a mess. My biggest travelling bag was on the floor. My
documents, clothes, files were littered on the ground. My little teddy bear was inside
my waste bin. I was mad!
“How could they touch my things?!!
What do they really want?!!”
Quincy came to stand in front of
me. His eyeballs were red! “They want something! I am certain my father had
something that could implicate the animal that killed him! They came to your
house to search for it and got nothing. What is next for them?”
“I don't know.”
“They came to your house and got
nothing,” he said fearlessly. “My house is next! Those scums will definitely come to my house and
I will be ready to welcome them with my gun!!”
